Gerry is a Partner with Chiampou Travis Besaw & Kershner LLP and specializes in providing tax and business consulting services to clients in a variety of industries, including equipment manufacturing, distribution and leasing, Internet services, consumer product manufacturing and distribution, timber, real estate, environmental services and construction.
He has over 18 years of experience, including 13 years with the Buffalo office of an international accounting firm. He was selected to participate in his former firm’s National Tax Service Coordinator program, served as a conference leader and was actively involved in strategic initiatives for the firm. His experience includes five years outside of public accounting during which time he held the positions of controller, treasurer, board director with HFW Industries, Inc., an entrepreneurial manufacturing company in Buffalo, New York.
Selected Experiences:
Responsible for the delivery of all tax advisory and compliance services to a variety of privately held manufacturing clients and their owners, including multi-state and international tax structures.
Focused on providing tax savings strategies and business consulting that aligned with the goals and objectives of the clients and their respective owners.
Responsible for the identification and delivery of tax planning and method change projects for a variety of manufacturing clients to accelerate tax deductions and implement efficient processes. Projects included acquisition, sale and start-up structuring, inventory cost reductions for tax purposes (e.g., election of LIFO method, uniform capitalization cost reductions and §471 methodology changes), bad debt reserve deductibility, extra-territorial income exclusion planning, state and local incentives planning, transaction cost analyses, state tax structuring, cost segregation and fixed asset studies, among others.
Gerry serves as the Treasurer and is on the Board of Directors of Western New York United Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse. He is a member of the Finance Committee for Every Person Influences Children (“EPIC”), and serves on the Finance Council and Home School Association Board for Saints Peter & Paul Parish in Hamburg, NY. He belongs to the New York State Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Gerry is an active member of a local chapter of T.E.C. (“The Executive Committee”), an international organization of CEOs and executives.
Gerry received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Canisius College.
